There is a lot of chaotic energy in the world right now.
The old structures of control are breaking down and our very foundations are being shaken. It’s easy to be swept up in this and to feel ungrounded.
Do you put others needs before your own?
If you are someone who tends to put other people’s needs ahead of their own, very often self care goes out the window and constant demands on your energy leave you feeling depleted and scattered.
If you’ve struggled with low self worth I want you to know that looking after your own needs is not selfish but necessary. You can’t pour from an empty cup.
It’s helpful to know that there are quick and simple daily practices you can incorporate to make you feel more grounded, stable and secure.
Ten Hot Tips for Grounding:
1. Barefoot Earthing:
Earthing (also known as grounding) refers to the discovery that bodily contact with the Earth's natural electric charge stabilises the physiology at the deepest levels. It is proven to reduce inflammation, pain and stress, improve blood flow, energy, sleep, and well-being. To do this simply walk barefoot on the earth to ground. If you can’t get outside take your shoes off as much as possible, even under your desk at work!
2. Grounding meditation:
You are not separate from the earth and when you consciously reconnect to it you are supported and held by the earth.

3. Nature bathing:
The Japanese have a cultural practice called forest bathing, which is simply spending time in the forest to receive peace. Science backs up this practice because places such as waterfalls, beaches and forests have found to have an abundance of negative ions in the atmosphere. When inhaled these negative ions stimulate the production of serotonin, the hormone responsible for alleviating depression, stress and anxiety!
4. Energy healing:

5. Herbs and foods for grounding:
- Figs: The deep roots of the fig endow its fruit with grounding energy. Enjoy these fruits to bring some more grounding to your being.
- Potatoes: Deeply grounding and connected to the Earth. Offer us stability and support.
- Nettle: This wild food is great for those who feel distracted and scattered. A cup of Nettle tea helps bring us back to centre.
6. Meditation:
Get out of your head and into your heart. Meditation is so powerful for grounding because it’s the practice of being fully present and just allowing and observing any chaotic energy to arise and drift past instead of embodying it. Making just 20 mins of meditation part of your morning routine daily will change your life!
7. Breathing in light:
Place your hands on your heart and take three breaths in slowly and deeply. As you do so imagine drawing in light with every breath. Focus on sending the light deep into your solar plexus chakra, (just above navel) where you store your light and energy.
8. Salt baths:
Remind us of when we were in the womb and are deeply relaxing and grounding. We are 70% water and our cells still remember our home the sea, where all life formed from a single celled organism. Enjoy an epsom salt bath.
9. Gardening:
Did you know that there’s a natural antidepressant in soil? It’s true. Mycobacterium vaccae is the substance under study and has indeed been found to mirror the effect on neurons that drugs like Prozac provide. The bacterium is found in soil and may stimulate serotonin production, which makes you relaxed and happier.
10. Grounding crystals:
-Jade: carries the energy of the Earth and nature and supports you to slow down, be in the present moment and ‘smell the roses.’
- Obsidian: is an earth-stone, activating the root chakra, clearing negative energy and grounding you to the Earth.
- Pebble: You can also choose any pebble that you are drawn to. It’s particularly powerful to place it in the sun to absorb light and heat and then hold it to connect to it’s solidity and stability.
